Meet Team ARTEMIS

Jenny Xiong

Hi! My name is Jenny Xiong and I am a sophomore at La Cueva High School. Currently I am participating in many activities outside of Robotics such as Science Olympiad, Science Bowl, Key Club, and Tennis. During the time I have spent being part of the robotics club, I have mostly contributed to the documentation aspect of robotics. This allows our team to be able to look back on what needs to be improved and implemented in the future. I joined the robotics team because the opportunity was rare for a female that wanted to go into the field of STEM. Being part of the team has helped the growth of my critical thinking skills and other various life-long skills.

Jessica Tran

Hello, my name is Jessica Tran and I am a part of 55885Y Artemis which is 1 of 3 groups at La Cueva HS. During my time being part of the robotics club, I have helped to contribute information on the physics of the robot to incorporate the best run through possible for the robot. These include wheel, building, and claw mechanism which proved why they worked and how it benefits the robot itself. I personally joined the LC robotics team because I wanted to be a part of the growing field in STEM, particularly because women need more opportunities in that field. Robotics is an interesting concept that has yet to reach its full aptitude, and I wish to be a possible factor that can help the future of robotics, or discover something new. Here are some interesting achievements about me: I won first place at UNM PNM math competition for grade 6th, I took 4th place at district in middle school track and field, and did 8 sports in total for at least one year.

Edward Potapov

Hi, my name is Edward Potapov. I’m a Junior attending La Cueva High School. I’ve participated in various clubs/activities ranging from Honor Societies to the school’s Orchestra. I enjoy working on projects that both include software and hardware. These projects are composed of implementations of Algorithms to designing PCBs. These skills help me in Robotics when working with the various stages of building a robot. Specifically, I worked on the construction of the Robot, helping build the frame and its intake. I also helped with several components of the code. In general, Robotics has helped me work with more people and really communicate my ideas about engineering and other interests.

Landon Salazar

Hello my name is Landon S. I am a freshman at La Cueva. Something I am proud of is that I have been in the program Boy Scouts of America for 3 years and am almost to my Eagle Rank. I also have been playing piano for 4 years and have enjoyed it. In robotics I have been watching mostly instead of working on our team's robot. I have had no previous experience in robotics so this was a great way to get my feet wet. Over the summer I have made it to be one of my goals to learn Java and C# to be ready for robotics next year. Robotics has really helped me with communication skills by asking questions. It has also increased my understanding of engineering and how to solve problems in a group. Along with making some great friends.
